Head Start’s Nutrition Program is one ingredient in the recipe for good health that all children need to grow and prosper. Providing healthy food and teaching children healthy eating habits at a young age prepares them to make the positive choices that lead to a healthy lifestyle.
Research shows that in the United States obesity in children has increased two to three times in the past 20 years, with one in four preschoolers overweight or obese. Without a change, these children may experience health problems as adults, which can lead to a lower quality of life.
One goal of Head Start of Lincoln County is to stop this trend towards childhood obesity by providing healthy food and nutrition education to young children and their parents through its nutrition and Back-Pack programs.
